Rogue Automata is a roguelike auto battler where you manipulate the cellular automata of Conway's Game of Life to drive cells to extinction.

How to Play

Manipulate Life

Conway's Game of Life is deceptively simple, creating complex behavior from only three rules:

1. Underpopulation. Each living cell with one or no neighbors dies.
2. Overpopulation. Each living cell with four or more neighbors dies.
3. Repopulation. Each empty cell with three living neighbors comes to life.

Rogue Automata adds two additional rules to the Game of Life to support multiple factions of cells:

4. Recruitment. When a new cell comes to life, it will join the dominant faction of its neighbors.
5. Flanking. When a living cell is outnumbered by cells of an opposing faction, meaning it has more opposing neighbors than allied neighbors plus itself, it will join the dominant faction of its neighbors.

You can place as many cells as there are enemy cells. Use these rules to dominate the Game of Life and drive enemy cells to extinction!

This is amazing! I absolutely love this concept (while I am terrible at making it actually do what I meant it to do lol) and I've always wanted to find this turned into an actual game. So, very well done! 👏👏

Thank you so much! I've wanted to make a game from Conway's Game of Life for years now, but I could never figure out how to make it work. But I've wanted to make a roguelike for a while, and the jam had me thinking along the lines of a Rube Goldberg machine......so that's when the the idea clicked into place.

I was really inspired by the game Calculate It and DougDoug's PvP Game of Life stream.
